Wally Bobkiewicz G’89

Wally BobkiewiczWally Bobkiewicz G’89 is the city manager of Evanston, Illinois, a community of 75,000 residents located just north of Chicago. He serves as the chief executive officer of the city with an annual budget of $250 million and 1,000 employees.  

Before beginning his current position in August 2009, Bobkiewicz served seven years as city manager of Santa Paula, California, and over four years as assistant city manager in Novato, California. Prior to that, Bobkiewicz spent nine years serving the City of Long Beach, California, in various capacities including telecommunications manager, assistant to the city manager, and as an administrative analyst in the Public Works and Police Departments.

Bobkiewicz serves on the International City/County Management Association’s (ICMA) International Committee. He is a past board member of both the California Chapter of ICMA (Cal-ICMA) and the League of California Cities City Manager’s Department.  He is also a past president of the Municipal Management Assistants of Southern California (MMASC).

In addition to his professional activities, Bobkiewicz is past president of the Syracuse University Alumni Association, a former member of the Syracuse University Board of Trustees and has served on the boards of United Way of Ventura County and the Rotary Club of Santa Paula.

Bobkiewicz earned a master’s degree in public administration from SU’s Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from the University of Southern California. He and his wife, Patrice Frey, reside in Evanston.
